Winter Contrast

Happy New Year! I am getting off to a slow start-not such a bad thing, actually.
So far, it is a time of what Abraham-Hicks calls "Contrast"for me. Yes, I am coming out of the closet - I read and listen to Abraham -Hicks and I even belong to a couple of Abraham- Hicks Facebook Groups.

My view of Contrast (just as I understand it!) is that things in my life are not so much what I wish for.
My ruined greenhouse, the necessity for a root canal next month on a tooth that was apparently injured during my adventures in orthodontistry - no one's fault and I am delighted to have my childhood smile back!😄 An ice and snow storm at the beginning of the year set me back considerably ... I do not thrive in cold weather.

Ice masquerading as snow
Only birds are venturing out

The only tracks anywhere on the property for days!

In my room all is well -one of my Calla lilies!

My cyclamen continues to bloom-over a year! and these lovely pink begonias!

The garden room is crammed with plants from the greenhouse

A view of greenhouse ruin and most of the plants safely stowed.
All in all life so far this year is giving me time to reflect. I am happy that I can appreciate beauty everyday - even when I am iced in!
Please leave a comment and tell me how your year is going so far. Did you make resolutions? Is 2017 looking like a good year for you? I hope so! I LOVE your comments and also links to your own Blogs, Youtube channels , and Pinterest boards!

I've been thinking a lot about balance and how contrasts work to maintain it in different areas of life.

My word for the year is "harvest" and all this means. My intentions are based on the word (and my purpose). In that, there is a balance - a push and pull - to keep things moving ever forward. I'm learning to accept that balance and enjoy it. That includes seeing plants and snow in the same day... :-)

Hello Colleen, I’m so pleased to find you at your blog today I was worried you might be unwell. I’m glad that is not the case, but I feel for you re the root canal. I’m sure you’re not looking forward to it; I know I wouldn’t be, but best to get it done.
Your home looks so cosy, and the view through your windows is magical. Like you, I don’t do well in the cold, and although I like looking out at snow and ice, I would rather have sunshine.
It always takes time to get going again after Christmas and the New Year, but things are starting to pick up again now. I didn’t make any resolutions did you?

Hi Alexis!
Welcome to my blog.My accountability partner for this year's theme is coming tomorrow -so i will have a word or phrase by the afternoon.
"Harvest" sounds so rich, abundant and colorful to me...Especially in light of "balance" . Keep us posted on how the year unfolds! Thank you for stopping by.

Happy New Year, Barbara! I am so happy to hear from you! I have been enjoying your blog, but not blogging -as you noticed!I do get to be a bit like Badger in the winter- just stay home, read, listen to music, crochet, etc. Cook and clean only when necessary and generally hibernate!I am being "called out" on this and will have to become a bit more visible this year.
I do not make resolutions! They seem to be burdensome and pointless for me. The same goes for "To Do" lists- somehow the things on the list do not get done.
Yes, my house is very cosy with lovely views from the windows. Growing up in apartments and hotels and boarding school, I was determined to live the way I do now when I grew up. There is another blog idea...You do inspire me, Barbara! Sending you a Big (((HUG)))

Such a lovely moment of peaceful tranquility that you have shown through your photos. Even if the outside appears intense, it shows your lovely light. xoxo

You inspire me too Colleen. I love visiting your blog and missed seeing you here. I am a great one for writing to-do lists, and I do try to do them, although not always in the ' order! The hardest, most unpleasant tasks usually end up being the last ones I tackle. :-)

I practice Abraham's wisdom as well, Colleen--so glad to find a kindred spirit! And you captured the essence--truly appreciate what you have and the good things about it.

Barbara! You are such a love. Brava for even making "to do" lists- even if you tackle the hardest tasks last.

For a moment, I remembered the pain I experienced 7 years ago when I had to have a double root canal - all because a filling between 2 teeth fell out and I was too busy being the quintessential corporate girl who didn't have time to visit a dentist. :)

Then I saw the lovely contrast photographs and felt, if Winter is here, can Spring be far behind?

My year hasn't really picked up yet but I've made new friends and business contacts who are on the same wavelength as I am so I think this is going to be a wonderful year, especially since I'm seeing my nephew in 3 weeks time. Life is good!

I hope this year is wonderful for you,Vatsala! Making new friends and business contacts who are on the same wavelength is a brilliant beginning!!! Life IS Good! Please keep in touch!

Such beautiful snow (ice) pictures and it looks like your house plants are doing wonderfully! I hope this will be a great year for you, Colleen. I've had several root canals over the years and believe me, the methods they use today are much easier with hardly any discomfort compared to how they used to be. You'll soon be skipping out of the dentist after it's all done!

THANK YOU, Marcia, for the reassurance! I am looking forward to getting through the adventure...
I hope all is well with you and that 2017 is a very Happy Year for you.

Your plants are beautiful Colleen! It looks like you have the perfect conditions to raise some succulents..do you have any of those in your collection?

colleen said...

Yes, Marie! most succulents just need lots of light and minimal water-especially in cold temperatures. I had a flower farm/nursery + garden design business for 10 years. I am now happy just growing many of my favorite plants indoors and in the garden! Thank you for stopping by and commenting!
